Professional Development of Teaching/Learning
Through my own studies in the Master of Education (MEd) program at UOIT, I have gotten to know several faculty members of the Faculty of Education, UOIT. I have been involved in educational research with Drs. Francois Desjardin, Roland vanOostveen, Maurice Diguiseppe and Lorayne Robertson since 2009. The research has ranged from the use of clickers in the large undergraduate classroom to investigate the use of information communication technology at UOIT, and the role of social media in the undergraduate classroom. I have also worked closely with members of the Teaching and Learning Center, UOIT, to develop a variety of tools to increase student engagement.
These collaborations have led to presentations at international conferences. Attending these conferences has also led to fruitful discussions surrounding the practise of teaching. Even though it can be a challenge trying to work out how to apply a different strategy to teaching, I enjoy working out whether a particular tool or technique can be adapted to use in my own classes.
