Teaching Related Contributions

As most of the courses that I teach contain over 100 students and had tutorial sections attached to them, there were teaching assistants (TAs) attached to the courses. Table 2 details the courses that have TAs attached to them and their responsibilities in courses taught from Fall 2012 onwards.

Recognition of my teaching abilities comes in the many different forms and include:

  1. Co-leading a panel discussion on teaching for New Faculty Mentorship Luncheon (2013, 2014).

  2. Leading Teaching Certificate workshop on group work which encompasses formation of groups, identifying the optimum size of groups and the allocation of marks for various members of a group.

  3. Co-leading an Orientation session for students in the Allied Health program, an online program which does not require students to be on campus (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014).

  4. Presentation at an EDC (Educational Developers Caucus) conference on the use of social media in university (2014).

  5. Presenting my work and experiences with using clickers in the classroom at Research Seminar (FOHS), Research Symposium (Faculty of Education).

  6. Development of a “Story wall” for final year Medical Laboratory students. 2011- 2012. These students are on placements at different locations throughout the GTA.  This concept was a direct result of a final assignment of one of my students and has proved to be an ongoing success.

  7. Voting member of Joint Teaching Faculty Workload Working Group with the purpose of “ascertaining the fair, reasonable and equitable allocation of Teaching Faculty workload based on the criteria set out in Article 16.04” of the latest Agreement.

  8. Co-organizing Teacher Talk sessions for the Faculty of Health Sciences.
